I am thinking…
about volunteering at my children’s school. I love doing it for lots of reasons, especially since I get to see my kids and develop a deeper relationship with their teachers. However, by saying yes to volunteering, I say no to other stuff.
I need to get back to the school librarian about volunteering for my daughter’s library time. It’s only 30 minutes. With a 4 year old coming along, we’re talking more like a 45 minute event complete with a 10 minute round trip. I wanted to sign my 4 year old up for a program at our local library to work on his social skills in a group. If we’re with my daughter’s class, it isn’t about him; it’s about her.
One 30 minute time slot may seem like very little. In the scheme of things, I’m already doing lunch duty (60+ minutes) 3 times a month, plus I’m homeroom mom for first grade, and my pastor asked me to help with organizing a volunteer fair. I think I need to say no to the library time, and do something just for my 4 year old.
I am thankful for…
spending time with friends at a Victorian Fair yesterday. Such an impromptu outing! I left tomatoes and cucumbers waiting to be canned. The kids had a great time. We’re planning on taking them to another local fair in October. This time it’s free though yesterday’s was pretty cheap. Such a great reminder though about moving 4 children through a crowd!
I am pondering…
Myself and my fellow Philly mom bloggers talk about encouraging and supporting our children in this video put together by the Hallmark Tour.
Living a green/frugal lifestyle…
We didn’t walk to school to pick up my daughter last week as I had planned. That’s okay. The days turned out to be busier than I anticipated.
From the kitchen…
Since last week was the first week of school, I wasn’t able to spend much time in the kitchen. This week, I am getting back into my usual routine, plus focusing on peanut-free recipes for school snacks and lunches. The Back to School Snack Roundup I did on my Frugal Local Kitchen blog in August has given me lots of ideas, plus I’m looking at Kitchen Stewardship’sHealthy Snacks to Go for more ideas.
I am creating…
plans for celebrating birthdays this fall. Yesterday, I bought half price tickets for the Please Touch Museum through Living Social (my link to the deal). I’ll be taking the middle boys and 2 of their friends in October for their birthdays, and my daughter and her friend in December. My children have plenty of toys, and they’ll receive toys from extended family. I want to focus on providing experiences.
I am going…
to mass this morning, and then a trip to Staples and CVS for last minute school items.
I am reading…
ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income. Whether I’ll have a 6 figure income when I’m finished reading and implementing the tips remains a mystery. It’s a good read, however.
Living A Healthy Lifestyle…
My first full week of running! I ran 4 times this week, logging over 8 miles total. I succeeded because I did the basics and did them every day. I’ll share more about my exercise routine as part of Motivation Monday tomorrow.
I am hoping…
for a great week of school. I’m a little apprehensive about doing homework with 3 children in the afternoon, plus keeping a 4 year old occupied.
I am hearing…
Quiet. Everyone is asleep.
Around the house…
Time to focus on deep cleaning. I didn’t get anything done last week which is fine. My husband has promised to take the air conditioners out of the upstairs bedrooms today. I can’t wait to air out the rooms and vacuum up the dust and cobwebs!
Around the yard…
Weedy, weedy, weedy!
One of my favorite things…
My $5 iPhone 4! I took pictures with it yesterday at the Victorian Fair, along with video of my son and his friend on the Trampoline Thing. I’m really happy with how the pictures turned out.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
Soccer, Venturing, Just Between Friends Children’s Clothing Sale, and Back to School Night.
A picture for thought…

Hi Barb,
What library program are you looking at? Nate will be in school 3 days, but I like to do the library at least once a week. Also, you can always come over so the boys can play…..
Have a wonderful week!
I haven’t had a chance to look yet. I think he can do the preschool one which might be Thursday mornings. I’d love to come over and have the boys play, too! I’ll let you know after I look at the library schedule.
