I finished my felt leaf garland on Saturday, and I’m so pleased with the result. I found the felt leaves in the dollar section at Joann Fabrics. The brown satin ribbon is a dollar spool from Michael’s; I had just enough leftover to make the garland.
Using a utility knife and a metal-backed ruler, I cut slits in the leaves, just long enough to fit the 1 1/2″ wide ribbon. The ribbon did bunch up a little during the hanging, but I don’t think I would change the length of the slits.
Of course, I wouldn’t have been able to hang the garland if I hadn’t found The Nester‘s tip about using upholstry tacks. I purchased a package of 24 white ones at Joann Fabrics for $1.49 and used a 50% off coupon. I took a little paint off the right tack, but I’m going to touch it up with white appliance paint.
Next step is asking my husband to hang an oval mirror that came from my great aunt, and I think I’ll get rid of the black feather garland. I love it, but it isn’t working for me.
