Today my 4 year old and I joined my middle 3 children at school for a Wellness Walk. Our school holds the walk at the beginning of the school year as a fundraiser. All the students and teachers in the school walk around a track behind the school for about 30 minutes or so. The younger kids go around twice, and the older ones go around 4 times.

This year, the kids moved a lot faster than in years past. It may have been the weather which was perfect for getting everyone outside. Lots of parents, moms and dads, showed up to walk with their children which is always great to see. The 8th graders led each class with a sign that focused on an aspect of healthy living. Afterwards, everyone gathered in the school parking lot for water and popcorn.

My Fitness Update

If you’ve followed along with my hip story, my hip is getting better, and no, I haven’t been to see the doctor yet. Yes, I know I need to go, and moms should make their own health a priority. I am running more each week. Last week, I did 8 miles in 4 runs. This week, I’ve done almost 8 miles in 3 runs with another run to do tomorrow morning.

I am realizing that the key to fitness in my 40′s is weight lifting and stretching. Especially weight lifting. My hip couldn’t tolerate stretching, and it loves weight lifting. With osteoporosis an issue in my family, I know that I have to stay fit now for when I get older.

How are you doing with your fitness goals for September?

I’m right on track for Sept…well, almost. I’ve been strength training and stretching consistently for almost 2 years and they’ve both been key to my progress. I wish I would have been more consistent with it sooner.

Thanks for linking up with Fitness Friday!

What a nice school tradition! It’s great that they promote a healthy lifestyle. Hope the hip is on the mend!

Yes, it’s doing a lot better! Now I just need to improve my pace. It is going down slowly.

I don’t think I could run that much and my hip doesn’t even hurt. Way to go! Thanks for sharing at Mom’s Library!

Thanks for linking up! I’m sorry I haven’t responded sooner, but your comment got lost in my spam filter.

It sounds like you do a lot of running! Good for you, but do take care of that hip. Joints are so important!

I find that stretching and strength building are important, too, but right now, walking and harvesting are my main forms of exercise. In a few weeks I hope to get back to more formal exercising.
