The Decorations
This is a humongous cookie jar I found at Target a few years ago that never quite fit in my kitchen. The inside decorations came from Pier One last year after Halloween. The black and white ribbon on top is my strategy for tying my fall and Halloween decorations together.
I kept the centerpiece for the table simple since we usually have a lot of food. The pumpkin fabric came from JoAnn Fabrics. I had planned on hemming the fabric, but I ran out of time. Instead, I folded the fabric to fit the table top and ironed it in place. There was a table pad between the fabric, black table cloth, and table top. The dahlias came from our garden.
I didn’t tell the kids, but I like to think of this as my industrialized birthday cake because I used boxed cake mix and store bought icing for the bottom part. I usually make my cakes from scratch, but I had no time last week. I’ve also never made a cake this big. My husband nicely ran to the store for the white icing when I realized that I needed to triple the orange icing and I had no more confectioners sugar.
