Come here on Tuesdays to read about my vegetable garden project and share yours.

Colorado potato beetlesMy Garden
Just a quick update this week since we’re in the final crazy week of the school year – I have an 8th grader graduating from Catholic school tomorrow night, followed by a school graduation party, and then 2 parties in our home this weekend.

I’ve been waging war on the potato beetles that I discovered on the plants in the beds next to the compost pile. I’ve seen the mature potato beetles in my garden, but never had to deal with the immature ones infesting the plants. I’ve been picking them every day and putting them in soapy water. They can be squished; however I want them really dead, not just squished. My theory is these 2 beds are lacking nutrients because I planted potatoes there 2 years in a row. Next year, I’m planting pole beans in these 2 beds.

I started picking red raspberries late last week. I’m only getting about 1/3 cup each day. I’m rinsing them and collecting them in a freezer bag in the freezer to use in a dessert during the winter.

The broccoli, snap peas, and lettuce are all going strong. I should be picking green beans any day now! Maybe we’ll have enough for the party on Saturday.
