Motivation Monday

One thing

I read a post last week (I can’t find it to link back to) about how we can busy ourselves about the little things rather than working on the details of the big things.

In a word, we’re busy, yet our busyness is not moving us along with our goals. Our busyness isn’t focused on our priorities. We’re treading water.

Making a plan and writing out action steps for achieving our goals is a step in the right direction. Though how many people write plans and don’t carry them out?

I think the trick is do one thing each day that helps us move forward. One thing is a phone call to a possible client. One thing is writing a draft of an article to submit to another blog. One thing is doing the required mileage for that day for your running program.

One thing is not spending more time on the plan. We already spent time on the plan. It’s good enough and open to revision as things change. It’s time to do something. To act.

Your homework: Do one thing today for your goal. It has to be an action – write the draft, run the miles, call the person, send the form in. Come share your one thing at A Life in Balance Facebook Group.

Thanks for sharing this great post- just what I needed to motivate :) I actually sat down and made a bunch of lists this weekend since I felt like I was treading water and getting nowhere so this post is REALLY helpful to me-thank you :)

Thank you! Some days I find I’m so wrapped up in fixing the little things on my blog that I don’t focus on what I need to do to move the blog and the writing forward.

Great advice… I do find when I do a little extra thing each day it adds up… but sometimes I just get frozen about making that move… so funny that a little phone call or a draft of something can be so hard.

I loved what you had to say about treading water! That’s so true! We get crazy overwhelmed with the details and they exhaust us.

I heard the other day that people overestimate what they can do in a short amount of time and underestimate what they can do long term.

Let’s faithfully carry out our goal and not be discouraged by the passing of time! Yeah, some days that’s hard. But that’s when we probably need to take a breather and eat some chocolate. :)

Chocolate’s always good!

I find some days I get caught up in the little things and forget to move forward on the bigger projects like finishing a family calendar or writing an article for a guest post.
